     Christian August Scholderer was born on 18 November 1807 at Degerloch, Oberamt Stuttgart, Neckarkreis, Württemberg.5,2,3,4 He was the son of Johann Jacob Scholderer and Christina Margareta Kaiser.4 Christian August Scholderer was baptized, at age 2 days, on Friday, 20 November 1807. He married, at age 23, Anna Margareta Lutscher, age 21, daughter of Jacob Frederich Lutscher and Katharina Barbara Reiser, in February 1831 at Degerloch, Oberamt Stuttgart, Neckarkreis, Württemberg.3,6,7,4 Christian August Scholderer died on 2 March 1874 at farm of Christian (Scholderer) Sholder, Old Lycoming Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, at age 66 years, 3 months and 12 days.2 He was buried in lot 520C West, in the Wildwood Cemetery, located in Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.2
     Christian August's surname has also been spelled as Sholder.2,3 He and Anna Margareta Lutscher emigrated on 14 March 1831 from Württemberg to North America at the age of 23. They traveled from their home in Degerloch with Christian's mother and stepfather, Johann Jacob Sigmund.8,4 Christian August Scholderer was a tailor between 1831 and 1836 at Centre County, Pennsylvania.3 As of 1832, Christian August Scholderer and Anna Margareta Lutscher lived in Centre County, Pennsylvania.3 Christian August Scholderer purchased from George Bussler a farm at Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, in 1838.3 Christian August Scholderer was both a farmer and tailor between 1838 and 1874 at Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.3

Christian August Scholderer at age 32 was listed as the head of a family in the Sixth Census for the United States of America enumerated on 1 June 1840 Lycoming Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. He is listed as "C. A. Shoulder." The record shows 4 in the household being employed in the manufactures and trade category. Based on ages, it is possible that the following were also living in the household: , Samuel Sholder and Charles Emanuel Sholder, as free white males between the age of newborn and under 5 years, Christian Sholder a free white male between the age of 5 and under 10 years, Johann Jacob Sigmund a free white male between the age of 60 and under 70 years, Elizabeth B. Sholder a free white female between the age of 5 and under 10 years, Anna Margareta Lutscher a free white female between the age of 30 and under 40 years, Christina Margareta Kaiser a free white female between the age of 60 and under 70 years. Since Christian traveled to America with his wife, mother and step-father, it is presumed that they are a part of his household.9 Christian August Scholderer witnessed the will of George Kinley on 14 August 1847 at Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. Christian August Scholderer was a farmer circa 1850 at Lycoming Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.10

Christian August Scholderer was enumerated on 19 September 1850 as the head of household in the Seventh Census for the United States of America, Lycoming Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, as "Christian Sholder," a farmer age 43 being born in Germany; his real estate was valued at $800, the equivalent of $17,400 in the year 2000. Anna Margareta Lutscher also lived in the same household, as "Margaret Sholder" age 42 being born in Germany as did Elizabeth B. Sholder, age 17 born in Pennsylvania, Christian Sholder, age 15 born in Pennsylvania, Samuel Sholder, age 13 born in Pennsylvania, Charles Emanuel Sholder, as "Emanuel" age 11 born in Pennsylvania, Charlotte Sholder, age 9 born in Pennsylvania, Benjamin Sholder, age 6 born in Pennsylvania, Daniel Sholder, age 4 born in Pennsylvania, John Sholder, age 1 born in Pennsylvania, Christina Margareta Kaiser, as "Christina M. Sholder" age 76 born in Germany and Katharina Barbara Reiser, as "Catharina B. Lutcher" age 80 born in Germany.11 Christian August Scholderer was a farmer circa 1860 at Old Lycoming Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.12

Christian August Scholderer was listed as the head of household in the Eighth Census for the United States of America, enumerated on 30 July 1860 in the State of Pennsylvania, Lycoming County, Old Lycoming Township as "Chris Shoulder," a white male age 51 with an occupation of a farmer, being born in Germany and able to write; his real estate was valued at $1200, the equivalent of $24,500 in the year 2000 and his personal property was valued at $600, the equivalent of $12,240 in the year 2000. We find Anna Margareta Lutscher resided in the same household, as "Margt Shoulder" age 51 being born in Germany; as did Samuel Sholder, as "Samul" age 21 born in Pennsylvania; Benjamin Sholder, age 16 born in Pennsylvania; Daniel Sholder, age 15 born in Pennsylvania; John Sholder, age 12 born in Pennsylvania; Caroline M. Sholder, age 8 born in Pennsylvania; John Ross, age 4_ [41] born in Germany; and Katharina Barbara Reiser, as "Cathie B. Sulcher" age 90 born in Germany.13 As of 1873, Christian August Scholderer and Anna Margareta Lutscher lived in Old Lycoming Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.14

In 1892 the "History of Lycoming County, Pennsylvania" was published, in which we find Christian's biography that was submitted to the book's editor, John F. Meginness. On page 1135, preserved for future generations we find the following:

     SHOLDER FAMILY. - Among the early settlers of Lycoming, county was Christian Sholder, a native of Dagerloch, Ober-Ampt Stuttgart, Wurtemberg, Germany, who immigrated to this country about 1832. He was a tailor by trade, and upon his arrival settled in Centre county, Pennsylvania. He remained working at his trade in that county about five years. In 1838 he purchased from George Bussler the farm upon which his son Christian now [1892] lives, in Old Lycoming township, Lycoming county. Here he engaged in farming, though still devoting a portion of his time to his trade, until his death. He married Mary M. Lutcher, a native of Germany, who survived him. They were the parents of nine children: Elizabeth, wife of Thomas Mahaffey; Christian; Samuel; Charles E; Benjamin; Charlotte, wife of William Blair; Daniel; John, and Caroline, wife of Clinton Cochran [Calkins]. Mr. Sholder was a member of the Lutheran church, to which faith his wife also, adhered. He was an ardent Democrat, and filled the office of school director, in his district for several years.3
