John Harold Shafer was born on 2 March 1906 at Hepburn Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of William Frederick Shafer and Martha Alice Bidelspacher. John Harold Shafer first married, at age 20, Mildred Viola Kyle, age 19, daughter of Lorin F. Kyle and Kathryn Yoxtheimer, on Monday, 26 July 1926.1 John Harold Shafer married a second time, at age 65, Elsie Blanche Klepper, age 53, daughter of Jacob E. Klepper and Elsie Bricker, on Saturday, 12 February 1972 at Lycoming Center Presbyterian Church, Hepburn Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. John Harold Shafer died on 1 April 1979 at Rehoboth Christian Hospital, Gallup, McKinley County, New Mexico, at age 73 years and 30 days.2 He was buried in the Blooming Grove Cemetery, located in Hepburn Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.
