Simon Kiess was born on 18 May 1851 at Anthony Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.1 He was the son of John Kiess and Mary Marquardt. Simon Kiess has also been reported to have been born 18 May 1852. He married Elizabeth A. Smith, daughter of John Smith and Mary B. Marshall, circa 1874.2 Simon Kiess died on 13 March 1925 at Larryville, Piatt Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, at age 73 years, 9 months and 23 days.2 He was buried in the Saint John's Chapel Cemetery, located in Anthony Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.
