     John S. Kiess was born on 9 July 1875 at Larryville, Piatt Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.1 He was the son of Simon Kiess and Elizabeth A. Smith. John S. Kiess married, at age 23, Effie D. Hoffman, age 30 on Wednesday, 17 May 1899.1 John S. Kiess married, at age 38, Mary Rhone, age 27 on Monday, 29 September 1913.1 John S. Kiess died on 7 January 1934 at age 58 years, 5 months and 29 days.1 He was buried in the Jersey Shore Cemetery, located in Jersey Shore, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.1
