Stout St. Leger Barklow

Stout St. Leger Barklow was born on 13 February 1822 at Enterprise Furnace, Greenup County, Kentucky. He was the son of Benjamin Barklow and Margaret Foster. Stout St. Leger Barklow married, at age 22, Sarah Jane Jeffords, age 17, daughter of Ezra Jeffords and Elizabeth VanBibber, on Thursday, 15 August 1844 at Portsmouth, Scioto County, Ohio. Stout St. Leger Barklow died on 3 February 1898 at Portsmouth, Scioto County, Ohio, at age 75 years, 11 months and 21 days. He was buried in the Greenlawn Cemetery, located in Portsmouth, Scioto County, Ohio.

Barklow, Stout -- 11 February 1898
Died at his residence on E. 3rd St. on Thursday evening of the previous week; expoliceman; 76 years old; he was born on 15 February 1822 in Enterprise Furnace, on Tygart Creek, in Greenup County, Kentucky; he came to Ohio as a young boy with his parents, and worked at Gaylord Roll Mills; in 1852 he went to California, but 2 years later came back; in 1855 he returned to California and remained there until 1859; before his return, he bought a lot in Oakland, a suburb of San Francisco; he leaves behind a widow and 3 grown children: Wm. E., Margaret J. Barklow, and Mrs. Agnes Roe, who is a teacher; he was also well known because he was 6 feet 4 inches tall; the funeral was on Sunday afternoon from the residence. He was Iron Boater, Grocer and Policeman.
