Johann Michael Stäbler was born on 19 May 1798 at Leinfelden, Oberamt Esslingen, Neckarkreis, Württemberg. He was the son of Johann Michael Stäbler and Anna Katharina Heimerdinger. Johann Michael Stäbler married Margaretha Hurr, daughter of Johann Jakob Hurr and Anna Barbara Kehrer, in 1827 at Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. Johann Michael Stäbler died on 23 January 1865 at age 66 years, 8 months and 4 days.
He was a farmer. He and Margaretha Hurr moved the family from Pennsylvania to Niles Township, Floyd County, Iowa about May of 1856. There he bought a farm which he operated until his death.
