Jacob C. Stäbler was born on 20 October 1829 at Lewis Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Johann Michael Stäbler and Margaretha Hurr. Jacob C. Stäbler married Eliza Jane Decatur, daughter of Stephen Decatur and Helena Flick, in 1864. Jacob C. Stäbler died on 13 March 1912 at Niles Township, Floyd County, Iowa, at age 82 years, 4 months and 22 days.
He was a millwright and farmer. He first learned the trade of a Millwright. Then in 1857 he moved to Floyd County, Iowa and bought a farm of 126 acres. The following year he returned to Pennsylvania and resumed his trade as a millwright for the next 16 years. In March of 1874 he left Lycoming County, Pennsylvania and moved to Siegfried, Northampton County, Pennsylvania, where he made bricks for about 4 years. In July, 1878, he returned to his farm in Niles Township, Floyd County, Iowa, and worked the farm until his death in 1912. He appeared on the census of 1880 at Charles City, Floyd County, Iowa.
