Sarah Esther Kinley was born on 28 April 1912 at Cogan Station, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.2,3 She was the daughter of William Boyd Kinley and Rachel Dora Waltz. Sarah Esther Kinley married, at age 17, William Lester Mahaffey, age 20, son of William Eli Mahaffey and Nancy Jane Paulhamus, on Tuesday, 17 December 1929.2,1 Sarah Esther Kinley died on 29 August 2002 at Manor Care Health Center, Jersey Shore, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, at age 90 years, 4 months and 1 day.3 She was buried on 3 September 2002 in the Woodward Township Cemetery, located in Woodward Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.
Her obituary was published on 31 August 2002 in the Williamsport Sun-Gazette, printed in Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. Her obituary stated:
Sarah E. Mahaffey, 90, of Mahaffey Hollow Road, Linden, died Thursday, August 29, 2002, in Manor Care South. She was the widow of William L. Mahaffey who died March 14, 1992.
Born April 28, 1912, in Cogan Station, she was a daughter of William B. and Rachel Waltz Kinley. She was a member of Maple Springs United Methodist Church and the Willing Hearts and Hands Society.
Surviving are 102 descendants including four sons, Ernest W. of Santa Rosa Beach, FL, Raymond K. and Clifford E. of Linden, and Robert E. of city; five daughters, Edna M. Confer of Linden, Helen L. Thacher of Chittenango, NY, Carol V. Dawes of Syracuse, NY, Margaret E. Dawes of South Williamsport, and Diane E. Plank of Liberty; two brothers, Ralph Kinley of city and Ernest Kinley of Cogan Station; three sisters, Dorothy Persun, Florence Menne and Eleanor Horn, all of Cogan Station. Also surviving are 28 grandchildren, six stepgrandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, 11 stepgreat-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday from Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond St., with the Rev. Dr. Wayne L. Hepler officiating. Burial will be in Woodward Township Cemetery. Friends may call at Sanders from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday.
The family requests no fresh flowers due to health problems in the family. Memorials may be given to the Memorial Fund of Maple Springs United Methodist Church, c/o Russell Hall, 30 Berkshire Place, Williamsport, PA 17701.
