Charles Jacob Smith was born on 28 April 1898 at Linden, Woodward Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.1,2 He was the son of Mitchel Crawford Smith and Mary Elizabeth Wurster. Charles Jacob Smith married, at age 21, Rosie Clara Hillyard, age 18, daughter of Daniel L. Myers and Ida Anna Wurster, on Thursday, 1 May 1919 at Quiggleville, Lycoming Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. Charles Jacob Smith died on 12 November 1973 at Piatt Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, at age 75 years, 6 months and 15 days.1,2 He was buried on 15 November 1973 in the Woodward Township Cemetery, located in Woodward Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.1

CHARLES J. SMITH DIES WHILE HUNTING IN AREA
Charles J. Smith, 75, of Linden RD 1, died Monday afternoon, November 12, 1973, while hunting in the Pine Run area of Piatt Township. Dr. Earl R. Miller, county coroner, ruled Mr. Smith died of a heart attack.
He was born in Linden on April 28, 1898, a son of Mitchell and Mary Wurster Smith.
A farmer, Mr. Smith retired in 1963.
He was a charter member of the Woodward Township Volunteer Fire Company.
Surviving are his wife, the former Rosie Hillyard; a son Elmer C., of Linden RD 1; four daughters, Mrs. Paul Ulmer, of Linden RD 2; Mrs. Nelson Waltz, of Linden RD 1; Mrs. Matthew DeLong, of Ephrata; and Mrs. Jack Marshall, of Jersey Shore RD 3; a sister, Mrs. Olive Wurster, of this city, 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Rearick's, 1002 Allegheny Street, Jersey Shore, with the Rev. David S. Harper, pastor of the Linden United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Woodward Township Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from noon to 1:30 p.m. Thursday. He was Farmer.
