Ellis Thompson Waltz

     Ellis Thompson Waltz was born on 25 July 1889 at Lycoming Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.1 He was the son of Wilhelm G. Waltz and Margaret Elizabeth Bower.1 Ellis Thompson Waltz married Kathryn Viola Mahaffey, daughter of Moses I. Mahaffey and Mary E. Berry.1 Ellis Thompson Waltz died on 20 May 1973 at Williamsport Hospital, Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, at age 83 years, 9 months and 25 days.2 He was buried on 23 May 1973 in the Mound Cemetery, located in Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. The funeral service was officiated by Reverend Paul E. Gordon.1
     Ellis Thompson Waltz appeared on the census of 28 April 1910 in the household of Wilhelm G. Waltz and Margaret Elizabeth Bower at Lycoming Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. His obituary was published sometime in May 1973 in the local paper, printed in Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. His obituary stated:

     E. THOMPSON WALTZ, CHURCH, COMMUNITY LEADER DIES AT 83

E. Thompson Waltz, 83, of Cogan Station RD 2, a church and community leader for many years, died at 8:10 p.m. Sunday, May 20, 1973, in the Williamsport Hospital, where he was admitted May 8 as a medical patient.

He was a member of the Lycoming Centre Presbyterian Church, of which he was an elder for 44 years and the Sunday School superintendent for 32 years.

He was a Lycoming Township school director for 24 years and secretary of the school district for 18 years.

A founder and member of the area Artificial Breeders Association, Mr. Waltz was a member of Lycova Grange 2006, of which he was a past master. He was also a member of the Lycoming County Pomona Grange, the State Grange and the National Grange.

He was born in Lycoming Township on July 25, 1889, a son of William G. and Margaret Bower Waltz.

Surviving are his wife, the former Katherine V. Mahaffey; four sons, Lewis M., of Detroit, Mich., Clifford L., of this city, and John E. and Robert H., both of Cogan Station RD 2; two brothers, Lawrence E., of this city, and Fred, of Morgantown, W. Va., 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the church with the Rev. Paul E. Gordon, his pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Mound Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from noon to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.1
