Mattie Shafer died on 28 June 1968 at age 89 years, 8 months and 11 days.1 She was buried in the Bertie Cemetery, located in Stevensville, Niagara County, Ontario Province, Canada.

Mattie Shafer was the third daughter born to Samuel B. and Mary Heim Shafer while they resided in Hepburn Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. Her date of birth was October 17, 1878. Mattie traveled with the family to Nebraska and returned to Pennsylvania. About 1900 the family moved to Ridgeway, Ontario, Canada.
After the death of her parents, Mattie continued to live on the farm home, keeping house for her brother, John until his death in 1961. She was a member of the Brethren in Christ Church. Mattie lived to be nearly ninety years of age, passing aay on June 28, 1968. She is buried in the church cemetery at Bertie. She never married. She was Housekeeper.
