Jacob Kiess was born on 6 August 1811 at Blooming Grove, Hepburn Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.1 He was the son of Christopher Kiess and Christina Sheets. Jacob Kiess has also been reported to have been born 6 August 1812 Blooming Grove, Hepburn Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.2 He first married Katherine Rote in 1837.1 Jacob Kiess married a second time Catherine Delker in 1844 at Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.2 Jacob Kiess died on 30 May 1882 at Whetstone Township, Crawford County, Ohio, at age 70 years, 9 months and 24 days.1,2
He became a widower at the age of 29 with the death of Katherine on 12 December 1840.2
