Derrick Richard Updegraff

     Derrick Richard Updegraff was born circa 1796 at Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.1 He was the son of Martin Updegraff and Mary Dunn. Derrick Richard Updegraff married Margaret Harrison circa 1820 at Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.1 Derrick Richard Updegraff died on 28 September 1835 at Shelby County, Indiana.1
     He Derrick/Richard moved from Lycoming county, PA about 1823 to Franklin, Rush county, IN, then into Shelby county, IN, where his estate was probated - Probate Book A, 1836 - 1842 Shelby county, IN - his brother Samuel Updegraff and John Y. Kennedy were appointed administrators of his estate 9/1835. His widow Mary was appointed guardian of thier underaged children - William, Caroline, Virginia, Mary, Winifred and Harrison, minor heirs of Derick Updegraff 9/2/1841. On 2/5/1840(50?) Shelby county Probate Court Order Book 1847 - 1849, page 325, revoked Margaret Updegraff (now Mrs. Clark) guardianship of William, Virginia and Harrison Updegraff and appointed her husband James Clark. Shelby county, IN, Probate Order Book 1847 - 1849, page 150 - in Petition to names listed, real estate of Derick Updegraff, Winifred and Harrison Updegraff - 8/8/1848. Shelby County Court Book 1847 - 1849, page 89 - Partition made of real estate of Derrick Updegraff, deceased, to his widow Margaret and children Virginia, wife of Milton A. Malong, Caroline, wife of Thomas Parker, William, Mary, Winifred and Harrison - 11/1848. Margaret was listed as 'head of family' in the 1840 census - Sugar Creek township, Shelby county, IN.
