Rebecca Updegraff

     Rebecca Updegraff was born in 1794.1 She was the daughter of Martin Updegraff and Mary Dunn. Rebecca Updegraff married James Cooper at Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.1 Rebecca Updegraff died on 15 May 1855 at Hendricks Township, Shelby County, Indiana, at age 61 years.2 She has also been reported to have died 15 May 1856.
     She and James Cooper moved to Rush County, Indiana about 1820, then to Shelby County, Indiana in 1830. William and Derrick Updegraff were appointed adminastrators of James' estate on 8 Mar 1830 - per Probate Order Book Shelby County, IN Court 1836 - 1842, page 56.

Rebecca is listed in the 1850 Census for Hendricks Township, Shelby County, IN as living with her son James. They had five daughters and three sons, only two are known by name at this time. Rebecca Updegraff appeared on the census of 1850 in the household of James Cooper at Hendricks Township, Shelby County, Indiana.
