John Yoakum was born in 1806 at Claiborne County, Tennessee. He was the son of Isaac Yoakum and Mary Davis. John Yoakum married Rachel Grimes, daughter of George Grimes and Nancy Carlock, in 1828. John Yoakum died on 2 January 1873 at Claiborne County, Tennessee, at age 67 years.
