Hugh Graham Yoakum was born in February 1831 at Tennessee. He was the son of John Yoakum and Rachel Grimes. Hugh Graham Yoakum married, at age 20, Nancy Emeline Branstetter, age 21 on Tuesday, 14 October 1851.

Yoakum, Oregon -- About 10 miles southeast of Echo, Hugh G. Yoakum bought a stock ranch along the Umatilla River. A native of Tennessee, he arrived in Pendleton in 1867 and elected county judge in 1872. Yoakum moved to Idaho in 1889 and the community is but a memory.
Hugh Graham Yoakum appeared on the census of 11 June 1900 in the household of Henry Clay Yoakum and Hermione Elizabeth Foss at Meadows, Washington County, Idaho.
