Charles E. Staebler

M, (10 December 1864 - 5 November 1930)
     Charles E. Staebler was born on 10 December 1864 at Lewis Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Jacob C. Stäbler and Eliza Jane Decatur. Charles E. Staebler married Marion I. Thompson, daughter of James Thompson and Mary Zanuck, circa 1894. Charles E. Staebler died on 5 November 1930 at Floyd County, Iowa, at age 65 years, 10 months and 26 days. He was buried in the Oakwood Cemetery, located in Floyd County, Iowa.
     He was a railroad engineer for the Minnesota & Northwestern Railroad. He moved to Floyd County, Iowa with his parents in July 1878. There he worked on the family farm until he was 21. On November 2, 1886 he went to work for the Minnesota & Northwestern Railroad. In 1893 he bought a farm in Mitchell County, Iowa and farmed there for 3 years, working intermittently for the railroad. From the fall of 1897 until Jan 1913, he worked in the railroad service, spending 23 years in all as a railroad engineer. During that time he lived in Dubuque, Oelwein and Clarion Iowa. Member of Independent Order of Foresters and the Elks. He and Marion I. Thompson along with their family were members of the Congregational Church of Clarion, Iowa in 1911.
