John Kiess was born on 10 May 1791 at Württemberg.2 He was the son of Johann George Kiess and Dorothea Gohl. John Kiess married Elizabeth Seamiller in 1818.3,1 John Kiess died on 27 February 1853 at Hepburn Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, at age 61 years, 9 months and 17 days.

John Kiess, only son of George Kiess was born in Wuerttemberg, Germany about 1793 and came to America with his father in 1804. He was reared in Hepburn Township and about 1818 he married Elizabeth Seamiller and they were the parents of seven children. Mr. Kiess was a Dunkard in religion and in politics a Democrat.
