     John Pence was born circa 1832 at Shelbyville, Shelby County, Indiana.1 He was the son of Peter Pence and Susanna Updegraff. John Pence married Martha Jane Cannon on Saturday, 26 November 1859 at Hillsboro, Montgomery County, Illinois.1 John Pence died on 9 June 1902 at Walshville, Montgomery County, Illinois.1
