Susan Ida Kurtz was born on 31 March 1867 at Warrensville, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.2 She was the daughter of Isaak Kurz and Katharina Miller.3 Susan Ida Kurtz married, at age 36, Edward Eugene Silliman, age 45, son of Robert Alexander Silliman and Lucretia Caroline Powell, on Wednesday, 29 July 1903 at Secunderbad, India.4 Susan Ida Kurtz died on 6 February 1960 at Alhambra, Los Angeles County, California, at age 92 years, 10 months and 4 days.2 She was buried in the Glen Abbey Cemetery, located in San Diego County, California.2
She attended Bucknell College and then Newton Center Seminary. She was appointed as a missionary by the American Baptist Women’s Foreign Mission Society to go to India. She sailed from Boston in 1892. She served 7 and a half not very happy years because of the domineering personality of the woman she lived with in a station near Madras, India.2 She sailed for India a second time in 1901 again as a missionary to Secunderbad, India where she was in charge of a school. She was married in Secunderbad but then move to her husband’s station at Narsaravupet, India. She retired in 1927.2
