Harry Richard Harner was born on 17 October 1933.1 He was the son of C. Douglas Harner and Pearl Elizabeth Bower.1 Harry Richard Harner married Mildred Ann Bower, daughter of Robert Kenneth Bower and Kathryn M. Usmar, circa 1957. Harry Richard Harner died on 19 May 2007 at age 73 years, 7 months and 2 days.1
His obituary was published on 21 May 2007 in the Williamsport Sun-Gazette, printed in Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. His obituary stated:
H. Richard “Dick” Harner, 73, of 233 Harner Lane, Pennsdale, passed away at home, Saturday, May 19, 2007 from his struggle with cancer. He will be sadly missed by his wife, the former Mildred “Tootie” Bower.
He was born October 17, 1933, the son of Douglas and Pearl Bower Harner.
Dick was a 1951 graduate of Montoursville High School and served in the US Army in Japan. He retired from the former GTE Sylvania Montoursville in 1990. Dick was a member and active volunteer of the Pennsdale Trinity Methodist Church, making great soups and apple dumplings for many years. He served as President of the Muncy Creek Sportsman club for 10 years. Dick spent his free time outdoors, fishing, trapping and hunting with friends and family and was an avid gardener. He loved his family and adored his grandchildren.
Surviving him in addition to his wife are two sons, Mark A. (Brenda) Harner of Pennsdale and Ken V. Harner of Wittier, CA; two daughters, Melinda K. (Tim) Orr and Ann E. (Rob) Harner-Steele, both of Muncy; a brother, Douglas Harner of Montoursville; two sisters, Joyce Clees and Mary Calehuff, both of Montoursville; 7 grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.
The funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 24, 2007 at Spitler Funeral Home, 733 Broad St., Montoursville. Interment will follow in Edgewood Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6-8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Pennsdale Trinity Methodist Church, 658 Village Road, Pennsdale, PA 17756.1
