Grace Beverly Sykes was born on 19 May 1930 at Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.1 She was the daughter of Collins Christopher Sykes and Lois Helene Bower.2 Grace Beverly Sykes married, at age 18, Albert W. Bowling, age 21, son of Hersky Bowling and Margaret [—?—], on Saturday, 29 January 1949.3 Grace Beverly Sykes died on 24 March 2002 at 41 Mill Street, Montoursville, Pennsylvania, at age 71 years, 10 months and 5 days.1 She was buried on 28 March 2002 in the Green Lawn Memorial Park, located in Montgomery, Clinton Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. The funeral service was officiated by Reverend Ronald D. Savits.1
Her obituary was published on 26 March 2002 in the Williamsport Sun-Gazette, printed in Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. Her obituary stated:
Grace B. Bowling, 71, of 41 Mill St., Montoursville, died Sunday, March 24, 2002, at her residence. Born May 19, 1930, in Williamsport, she was the daughter of Collins C. “Red” and Lois H. Bower Sykes.
Mrs. Bowling is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Albert W. Bowling on July 22, 1997; a daughter, Sandra K. Bowling and a sister, Shirley Adams.
She is survived by two sons, Ronald E. Bowling and William R. Bowling, both of Williamsport and two daughters, Kathryn M. Merrell of Montoursville and Debra J. Scaife of Cogan Station. Also surviving are two brothers, Robert A. Sykes and William H. Sykes, both of Williamsport and four grandchildren.
She was a member of the Williamsport Women’s Bowling Association and was inducted into the Bowling Hall of Fame. She was active in the Democratic Party and helped organize womens softball in Williamsport.
The funeral will be Thursday, 10:30 a.m. at Spitler Funeral Home, 733 Broad St., Montoursville, with Rev. Ron Savits of Newberry Church of Christ officiating. Burial will be in Green Lawn Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.1
