Collins Christopher Sykes

Collins Christopher Sykes was born on 6 July 1910 at Ricketts, Fairmount Township, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania.1 He married, at age 18, Lois Helene Bower, age 22, daughter of William Christopher Bower and Grace Garnet Martz, on Saturday, 13 April 1929.1 Collins Christopher Sykes died on 3 March 2001 at Montoursville, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, at age 90 years, 7 months and 25 days.1 He was buried on 8 March 2001 in the Green Lawn Memorial Park, located in Montgomery, Clinton Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. The funeral service was officiated by Reverend Ronald D. Savits.1
Collins Christopher Sykes also went by the name of Red.2 His obituary was published on 5 March 2001 in the Williamsport Sun-Gazette, printed in Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. His obituary stated:
Collins C. (Red) Sykes, 90, of 41 Mill St., Montoursville, died Saturday, March 3, 2001 at his residence. His wife, the former Lois H. Bower, died January 4, 1992.
Mr. Sykes retired as a truck driver from the former Folmar Trucking, Williamsport. He was a member of the Teamsters Union, the Eugene Grafius Post 104, Montoursville, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Williamsport.
He was a WWII, Army Veteran and a recipient of a purple heart.
Born July 6, 1910 in Ricketts, Pa., he was the son of William and Carrie Sykes.
He is survived by two sons, Robert A. and William H. of Williamsport, a daughter, Grace B. Bowling of Montoursville, a brother, Oscar Sykes of Frederick, MD, 12 grandchildren, and several great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Adams.
The funeral will be Thursday 10 a.m. at Spitler’s, 733 Broad St., Montoursville, with the Rev. Ronald D. Savitts officiating. Burial will be in Green Lawn Memorial Park, Clinton Twp. Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 7-9 p.m.1
