Viola M. Hakes

     Viola M. Hakes was born on 6 May 1923 at Montoursville, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of Alphous Beebe Hakes and Chrissie Viola Maley. Viola M. Hakes first married Carl L. Bower, son of George L. Bower and Laura Mae Burr, circa 1944. Viola M. Hakes married a second time Ralph W. Younkin circa 1974. Viola M. Hakes died on 20 October 2004 at Valley View Nursing Center, Montoursville, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, at age 81 years, 5 months and 14 days.
     Her obituary was published on 21 October 2004 in the Williamsport Sun-Gazette, printed in Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. Her obituary stated:

     Viola M. Younkin, 81, of 8546 Rose Valley Road, Montoursville, died on Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2004, at Valley View Nursing Center. Born in Montoursville on May 6, 1923, she was the daughter of Alphous and Viola Maley Hakes.

     She was married to Ralph Younkin with whom she celebrated 48 years of marriage on July 6th.

     She was a member of the Church of Assumption and its Alter Rosary Society in Cascade.

     Surviving are a son, Robert L. (Vida) Bower of Balls Mills; five daughters, Connie L. Wheeland of Cogan Station, Carlene L. (Sonny) Eck of Trout Run, Elaine K. (Harry) Springman of Cogan Station and Judith M. Welty and Patricia A. Childress, both of Williamsport; one sister, Leone McCormick of Elimsport; 19 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by six brothers and three sisters.

     A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday at Church of Assumption, Cascade, with Monsignor Stephen D. McGough officiating. Burial will follow in Church Cemetery, Cascade Twp. Friends will be received Friday from 6 until 8 p.m. at Spitler Funeral Home, 733 Broad St., Montoursville.
