William Kiess was born on 28 February 1808 at Blooming Grove, Hepburn Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.2,1 He was the son of Christopher Kiess and Christina Sheets. William Kiess first married, at age 24, Margaretha Rote, age 23, daughter of Francis Rote and Mary Welliver, on Thursday, 24 January 1833 by Jacob Grafius Esquire, Justice of the Peace.2,1 William Kiess married a second time Elisabeth Digel circa 1853. William Kiess died on 2 March 1882 at Crawford County, Ohio, at age 74 years and 2 days.2,1
William Kiess was also known as Keese. He and Margaretha Rote appeared on the census of 28 August 1850 at Anthony Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. He became a widower at the age of 43 with the death of Margaretha on 24 September 1851.1 He became a widower at the age of 54 with the death of Elisabeth on 27 October 1862.
