Lloyd M. Kiess1,2

M, (13 September 1882 - 10 February 1975)
Lloyd M. Kiess was born on 13 September 1882 at Salladasburg, Mifflin Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.3,2 He was the son of Solomon Kiess and Lydia Waltz. Lloyd M. Kiess married, at age 25, Viola Catherine Bower, age 21, daughter of George Washington Bower and Catharina Sheets, on Wednesday, 25 December 1907 at home of Jacob C. Waltz, Anthony Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.1 Lloyd M. Kiess died on 10 February 1975 at Leader Nursing Home, Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, at age 92 years, 4 months and 28 days.2 He was buried in the Woodward Township Cemetery, located in Woodward Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.4
He was a farmer. John Antes Bower worked for Lloyd Kiess for a time. He said each week they would butcher a hog, then cut it up. Then Lloyd would go to town to peddle his goods always the same day of the week. Lloyd would always get his horses from Hurrs Dairy. To the best of my knowledge they were all sorrels. They all looked alike hitched to the milk wagons when the milk went out about town. I can still see the milk man with a carrier that held 6 or 8 quarts of milk. He would walk down the sidewalk going into one house then the next. The horse in the street would walk forward on its own to keep up with the milkman. They were good horses. Woodrow Beach, Forrest Beach's brother, told me years ago that the mesh bridge on the new Market Street Bridge ended the horses. They will not cross a mesh bridge. Woodrow left Hurrs at that time. He said he wasn't driving a truck. It would be a lot more work getting in and out to move the truck ahead. [Harold Bower Sr & John Antes Bower] The anniversary announcement for Lloyd M. Kiess and Viola Catherine Bower was published sometime in December 1957 in the local paper, printed in Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. This announcement stated:
