Viola Catherine Bower was born on 8 January 1886 at Hepburn Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.2 She was the daughter of George Washington Bower and Catharina Sheets. Viola Catherine Bower married, at age 21, Lloyd M. Kiess, age 25, son of Solomon Kiess and Lydia Waltz, on Wednesday, 25 December 1907 at home of Jacob C. Waltz, Anthony Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.1 Viola Catherine Bower died on 2 April 1971 at Williamsport Hospital, Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, at age 85 years, 2 months and 25 days.3 She was buried in the Woodward Township Cemetery, located in Woodward Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.3
The anniversary announcement for Viola Catherine Bower and Lloyd M. Kiess was published sometime in December 1957 in the local paper, printed in Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. This announcement stated:
Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd M. Kiess, Salladasburg RD 1, will observe their 50th wedding anniversary on Wednesday, December 25, 1957. Open house will be held for the couple on Sunday, December 22 at their home from 2 to 5 pm and 7 to 9 pm.
Mr. Kiess is a lifelong farmer and both Mr. and Mrs. Kiess are living on the same farm where he was born. Mrs. Kiess is the former Viola Bower, Hepburn Township. The couple were married at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Waltz. Mr. and Mrs. Kiess are members of the Lycoming Charge of St. John's Evangelical United Brethren Church.
They have one daughter, Mrs. David Albert, Trout Run RD; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.1
