Jacob Updegrove1

     Jacob Updegrove was born in 1723.1 He was the son of Jacob Updegraff.1 Jacob Updegrove married Sarah Butler, daughter of Richard Butler and Jane [—?—], circa 1750.1
     Jacob Updegrove is probably the same Jacob that is listed in the Coventry Tax lists, Chester County, Pennsylvania: 1750 - Jacob Uptigrave, 1753 - Jacob Uptegrove, 1754 - Jacob Uptegravepoor, 1756 and 1757 - Jacob Upthegrove - inmate (meaning a landless married man over 21 years of age). Jacob crossed the Schuylkill River to Chester County, Pennsylvania, where a Samuel Nutt was making iron at Coventry in partnership with William Branson and Mordecai Lincoln (great-great grandfather of President Abraham Lincoln.)1 He was an iron maker.1
