Richard Updegrove was born in 1756.1 He was the son of Jacob Updegrove and Sarah Butler.1 Richard Updegrove married Hannah [—?—] circa 1775. Richard Updegrove died on 6 September 1824 at age 68 years.1 He was buried Chesapeake City, Cecil County, Maryland.
A Richard is listed in the 1790 Census for Northumberland County, Pennsylvania - 3 males over 16, 2 males under 16 and 3 females, then no more in Pennsylvania. Richard removed to Elkton, Maryland - the meetings for the first Methodist Church were held in his home at Elkton, the old brick church was on East High Street and was erected in 1814.
