Samuel Updegraff was born in 1801 at Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.1 He was the son of Martin Updegraff and Mary Dunn.2 Samuel Updegraff married Nancy Rhody on Thursday, 22 December 1825 at Jersey Shore, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, by the Reverend John Hays Grier.3
Samuel Updegraff and his family are probably the ones listed in the 1830 Lycoming Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania census. They were living in Shelby County, Indiana by 1835. They could be the ones listed in the 1860 Census at Elmender, Madison County, Kansas, then in 1880 at Lyon County, Kansas.1 He and Nancy Rhody appeared on the census of 1830 at Lycoming Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.1
