     William Dunn Updegraff was born in 1788 at Northumberland County, Pennsylvania.1 He was the son of Martin Updegraff and Mary Dunn. William Dunn Updegraff married Nellie [—?—] in 1810.1 William Dunn Updegraff married Ruth Caldwell Richmond on Wednesday, 27 December 1837 at Shelbyville, Shelby County, Indiana. William Dunn Updegraff married Mary Powell on Thursday, 28 November 1850 at Shelbyville, Shelby County, Indiana. William Dunn Updegraff died in 1872 at Shelby County, Indiana, at age 84 years.1 He was buried in the Snyder Cemetery, located in Hendricks Township, Shelby County, Indiana.
     He was a farmer. He and his family were living in Franklin County, Indiana in 1819 when son Joseph was born, listed in the 1840 and 1850 US Census in Hendricks Township, Shelby County, Indiana.

William left a will in Shelby County, Indiana - Will Book 1, No. 1, page 327 dated 7 Sep 1867, proved in 1872; Shelby County Probate Order Book D, page 30 1873 - 1876, page 104 is a petition by Cyrus Wright, Exec., to sell William's real estate in Shelbyville, Indiana, that had been willed to his widow who died 9 Jan 1872.
