Jesse DeHaven was born on 30 October 1841 at Wellersburg, Somerset County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of William S. DeHaven and Eleanor Harden. Jesse DeHaven married, at age 55, Nancy Lloyd on Friday, 28 May 1897 at Terre Haute, Vigo County, Indiana. Jesse DeHaven died on 12 November 1899 at Indiana State Soldier's Home, Lafayette, Tippecanoe County, Indiana, at age 58 years and 13 days. He was buried in the Soldier's Home Cemetery, located in Indiana.
He was a Union soldier in the Civil War having enlisted at Columbus, Ohio on 30 January 1864. He served in Company C, 110th Ohio Volunteer Infantry as a private until the unit was mustered out at Washington D. C. on 9 June 1865. He later had thre months service with 3rd Ohio Company A. The name of his first wife is not known but, then on 28 May 1897 in Terre Haute, Indiana, he was married to Nancy Lloyd. After his war service he lived in Delphi, Indiana and Indianapolis, Indiana. In a pension application in 1890 he gave his address as 41 Madison Avenue, Indianapolis, Indiana. Jesse died of Bright's disease at the Indiana State Soldiers Home at Lafayette on 12 November 1899.
