Doris Alberta Hafer1

     Doris Alberta Hafer was born on 31 July 1930 at Rutchey's House, Woodward Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.1 She was the daughter of Walter Henry Hafer and Margaret Elizabeth Roller.2,1 Doris Alberta Hafer married, at age 19, Frank Allison DeRemer, age 20, son of Franklin H. DeRemer and Miriam R. Fink, on Friday, 27 January 1950 at Lycoming Evangelical United Brethren Church, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.3,1 Doris Alberta Hafer died on 17 September 2021 at Williamsport Home, Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, at age 91 years, 1 month and 16 days.1 She was buried on 22 September 2021 in the State Road United Methodist Church Cemetery, located in Lycoming Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. The funeral service was officiated by Reverend Elizabeth G. Jackson.1
     Doris Alberta Hafer also went by the name of Dorie.1

     An obituary on 10 July 1964 in the local paper, printed in Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, for Walter Henry Hafer listed Doris Alberta as his daughter.2 As of November 1965, Doris Alberta Hafer and Frank Allison DeRemer lived at Williamsport RD 2, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.4

     Doris Alberta Hafer was listed in Grace Mildred Hafer's obituary in November 1965 Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, as her sister.4 She was widowed at age 67 by the death of Frank on 22 August 1997.5,6,1 As of 1999, Doris Alberta Hafer lived at 1835 Almost Country Road, Linden, Pennsylvania. Her obituary was published on 19 September 2021 on the website for Knight-Confer Funeral Home, Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. Her obituary stated:

     Doris A. “Dorie” DeRemer, 91, of Linden passed away Friday, September 17, 2021 at The Williamsport Home. She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Frank A. DeRemer, on August 22, 1997.

     Born July 31, 1930, in Linden, she was a daughter of the late Walter H. and Margaret E. (Roller) Hafer.

     Dorie was a strong farmer’s wife who was attentive to all the needs of the farm, home, and family. She was a member of Maple Springs United Methodist Church where she served on the board, was the janitor, played the organ, and helped with many meals for church dinners. Dorie enjoyed patchwork, quilting, crocheting, knitting and was a wonderful cook. She made over 1700 lap robes that were donated to different charities.

     Surviving are three sons Larry W. DeRemer (Carol) of Linden, Ernest L. DeRemer (Celeste) of Williamsport, and Jerry L. DeRemer (Lori) of Linden; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

     In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers Kenneth and Paul Hafer, and three sisters Grace Sholder, Lena Bower, and Helen Grove.

     A funeral service to honor the life of Dorie will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 22 at Knight-Confer Funeral Home 1914 Memorial Avenue, Williamsport with Pastor Elizabeth G. Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in State Road Cemetery. A viewing will be held from 10 a.m. until time of service at Knight-Confer Funeral Home.

     In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dorie’s name to the Maple Springs United Methodist Church 2055 PA-973 West Cogan Station, PA 17728 or to a charity of donor’s choice.1
