Walter Henry Hafer was born on 20 July 1889 at Woodward Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.3,6,7,1 He was the son of Cyrus Egelman Hafer and Jemima Paulhamus. Walter Henry Hafer married, at age 22, Margaret Elizabeth Roller, age 19, daughter of Daniel Roller and Annie Alice Smith, on Wednesday, 26 June 1912.8,9,4,5 Walter Henry Hafer died on 10 July 1964 at Woodward Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, at age 74 years, 11 months and 20 days.9,3,6,1 He was buried on 13 July 1964 in the Buchanan Baptist Church Cemetery, located in Old Lycoming Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. The funeral service was officiated by Reverend Robert Gehlbach.9,6,1
Walter Henry Hafer was employed by the Armour Leather Company.9 Walter died from gangrene. He was a member of Maple Spring Evangelical United Brethren Church. He died on the farm that was the Roller homestead which now belongs to his youngest daughter Doris DeRemer. His obituary was published on 10 July 1964 in the local paper, printed in Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. His obituary stated:
Walter H. Hafer, 75, of Linden R.D. 1, died at his home at 6 a.m. today, Friday, July 10, 1964.
Mr. Hafer was a retired employee of the Armour Leather Co. He was a member of the Maple Springs Evangelical United Brethren Church.
Surviving besides his wife, the former Margaret E. Roller, are four daughters, Mrs. James Sholder, Mrs. Paul R. Bower, Mrs. Wilbur Grove, Mrs. Frank DeRemer, all of Williamsport R.D. 2; two sons, Kenneth R., Williamsport R.D. 3, and Paul D., Linden R.D. 1; four brothers, Harry C., Linden R.D. 1; Hiram W., Williamsport R.D. 2; Frank, of this city, and Fred H., N.J. There are 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Knight's, 1912 Memorial Avenue, at 1:30 p.m. Monday, with the Rev. Robert B. Gehlbach officiating. Burial will be in the Buchanan Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday.9 The Social Security Death Index gives the last residence of record for Walter as Pennsylvania.3
