Richard Tillis was born on 16 January 1809 at Mason, Fairfax County, Virginia. He married, at age 20, Elizabeth Greenlee VanBibber, age 27, daughter of Jesse John VanBibber and Elizabeth Rachel Greenlee, on Saturday, 12 September 1829. Richard Tillis died on 2 October 1881 at Mason County, West Virginia, at age 72 years, 8 months and 16 days.
