David Michael Carey married Rachel Ann Fortner, daughter of John T. Fortner and Eloise Bolinger, circa 1917. David Michael Carey died on 15 December 1980 at Claiborne County, Tennessee, at age 84 years, 10 months and 24 days. He was buried in the Oak Hill Cemetery, located in Crossville, Cumberland County, Tennessee.
David Michael Carey was also known as Mitchell. He became a widower at the age of 77 with the death of Rachel in October 1973.
