Frederick William Updegraff was born on 5 June 1871.1 He was the son of Thaddeus Stevens Updegraff and Ella Alice Hale.1 Frederick William Updegraff married Eleanor C. Grosvenor, daughter of George Grosvenor, in 1906.1 Frederick William Updegraff died on 24 December 1927 at age 56 years, 6 months and 19 days.1
He appeared on the census of 1 June 1880 in the household of Thaddeus Stevens Updegraff and Ella Alice Hale at Elmira, 5th Ward, Chemung County, New York. Fred or also commonly known as "Fritz" was lost in the Amazon for seven years, he later wrote a book called, "Head Hunters of the Amazon." He resided in Elmira, New York.1
