William James Carpenter was born on 15 May 1927 at Linden, Woodward Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.3 He was the son of William Stewart Carpenter and Florence Bertha Waltz.1 William James Carpenter married, at age 18, Mary Joan Waddell, age 17 on Saturday, 20 October 1945 at Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.3,1 William James Carpenter died on 3 March 2004 at Manor Care Health Center, Jersey Shore, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, at age 76 years, 9 months and 17 days.1 He was buried in the Woodward Township Cemetery, located in Woodward Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.1
He became a widower at the age of 72 with the death of Mary on 27 July 1999.1 His obituary was published on 5 March 2004 in the Williamsport Sun-Gazette, printed in Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. His obituary stated:
William J. Carpenter, 76, of 6215 North Route 220, Linden, died Wednesday, March 3, 2004, at Manor Care South following an extended illness. His wife, the former Mary J. Waddell, died on July 27, 1999.
Bill and his wife owned and operated Carpenter’s Mobile Home Park and Carpenter’s Farm and Market, both in Linden. He was also co-owner of C & P Excavating in the early 1970s.
He was a charter member and a past Fire Chief for the Woodward Twp. Vol. Fire Co.
Born May 15, 1927, in Linden, Bill was a son of William S. and Florence B. Waltz Carpenter.
Surviving are sons James R. of Linden, William Jay of Bothell, Wash., and Scott S. of Dallas, Ga; daughters, Mary Alice Reed of White Pine, Helen Cosman of Stittsville, Ontario, Canada, Dee Ann Ulsamer of Williamsport, Sherri Plocinski of Muncy and Terri Stutzman of Linden; sister, Ruth Smith of Linden, 17 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by brothers John and Aldas (Pete) and sisters Marentha Wagner, Bertha Palmatier and Ethel Knauss.
In keeping with the wishes of the deceased, there will be no visitation. Services and interment will be at the convenience of the family at a future date in Woodward Township Cemetery. The family will provide the flowers.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions may be made to the Woodward Twp. Vol. Fire Co., 4147 North Route 220, Linden, PA 17744, or the charity of donor’s choice. Knight-Confer Funeral Home.1
