Norma Isabelle Levan1,2

     Norma Isabelle Levan was born on 10 May 1924 at Muncy, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.1 She was the daughter of Norman P. Levan and Anna Josephine Fry.1 Norma Isabelle Levan married, at age 21, Thomas Haines Heim, age 25, son of Ira Fernando Heim and Mary Sabina Ulmer, on Saturday, 23 June 1945 at Trinity Evangelical Church, Garden View, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, by the Reverend John Benton Mays.1,3,2 Norma Isabelle Levan died on 4 November 2007 at Warren, Warren County, Pennsylvania, at age 83 years, 5 months and 25 days.1
     Her obituary was published on 27 November 2007 in the Williamsport Sun-Gazette, printed in Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. Her obituary stated:

     Norma I. Heim, 83, passed away on Sunday, November 4, 2007, at the home of her daughter in Warren, Pennsylvania.

     She was born on May 10, 1924, in Muncy, PA, to the late Norman P. and Anna J. LeVan. She graduated from Williamsport High School, Williamsport, PA in 1943.

     She worked at Schlauch’s Jewelers and Brodart Book Services & Handling in Williamsport, PA. After moving to West Lafayette, IN, in 1972, she worked at Klondike Elementary as a teacher’s aide, at Smitty’s Foodliner on Northwestern Avenue, and at Federated Church as coordinator of homebound visitation, this being her favorite "job" because she felt a calling to this ministry.

     A deeply religious person, she served as a Sunday School & Vacation Bible School teacher. She was also active in the Northumberland Baptist Women’s Association, serving as its president in 1962 and also held office at the state level. She and her husband, Tom, were longtime members of the Hepburn Baptist Church near Williamsport. After moving to NY, they became members of the Rushville United Methodist congregation. Moving again to Indiana, they were members of the Central Christian Church in Terre Haute, Federated Church in West Lafayette, and Zionsville Christian Church near Indianapolis. She was a member of the Tippecanoe County Home Extension, and enjoyed Aquasize lessons at the Lafayette YWCA.

     She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Thomas Heim, who passed away in September, 2007. She is survived by two sisters, Grace Kinley and Joey Bjalme of Williamsport, PA; one brother, Norman LeVan Jr. (wife: Carol) of Muncy, PA; two daughters, Lyn Kell (husband: Gary) of Warren, PA and Joy Heim (husband: Grant Mabie) of Indianapolis, IN; and a son, Phil Heim of Ada, MI.

     Also surviving are seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild, to whom she was extremely devoted: Justin and Tad Kell, Justin, Julian and Natalia Mabie, Taylor and Hayden Heim, Cole Kell and many nieces and nephews.

     A memorial service will be held for Norma and Tom at Federated Church on Sunday, December 2, beginning at 2 p.m., followed by a time to reminisce. There will be a memorial and graveside service in Cogan Station, PA in the spring. Memorial contributions for Norma Heim may be made to Hepburn Baptist Church, 2917 Pleasant Valley Road, Cogan Station, PA 17728, or the Arthritis Foundation, 615 N. Alabama, Suite 430, Indianapolis, IN 46204.1
