     Karl Joseph Ely was born on 6 March 1908 at Calvert, Gamble Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.1,2 He was the son of John W. Ely and Mary J. Eddy. Karl Joseph Ely married, at age 27, Elizabeth Hulda Heim, age 23, daughter of Ira Fernando Heim and Mary Sabina Ulmer, on Saturday, 1 June 1935 at Hepburn Baptist Church, Hepburn Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.3 Karl Joseph Ely died on 19 October 1995 at Divine Providence Hospital, Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, at age 87 years, 7 months and 13 days.2,3 He was buried in the Blooming Grove Cemetery, located in Hepburn Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.
     He was a poultry farmer in 1960. He was the first President of the Blooming Grove Historical Society, serving from 1978 to 1993. Date of marriage could be 6 Jun 1935.
