John Edmond Cope was born on 9 August 1822 at Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania.1 He was the son of Herman Cope and Mary Grier.2 John Edmond Cope married, at age 27, Helen Taylor Merrick, age 22, daughter of Samuel Vaughan Merrick and Sarah Thomas, on Thursday, 4 October 1849 at Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania.1 John Edmond Cope died on 1 April 1880 at age 57 years, 7 months and 23 days.1 He was buried in the Laurel Hill Cemetery, located in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania.1
