Samuel Stabler

M, (April 1848 - 1922)
     Samuel Stabler was born in April 1848.1 He was the son of Johann Ulrich Stäbler and Anna Kehrer. Samuel Stabler married, at age 24, Mary Jane Kurtz, age 21, daughter of George Kurtz and Elizabeth Anna Wolf, in December 1872.2 Samuel Stabler died in 1922 at age 73 years. He was buried in the Wildwood Cemetery, located in Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.
     He was a shoe store owner and a leather dealer on East Third Street in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. He was also Mayor of Williamsport for a term. He and Mary Jane Kurtz appeared on the census of 1880 at Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. The following article about Samuel was published on 11 May 1914 in the local paper, printed in Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. This article stated:

     Mayor Samuel Stabler, on behalf of the Board of Trade, made this request to Williamsporters: "One of the duties of a commercial organization is to bring conventions to a city and help entertain them when they come. The Grand Circle of Pennsylvaia of the Protected Home Circle will hold its tenth biennial session in this city next week. We want to give the delegates and visitors an opportunity to see Williamsport Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock. Will you kindly loan your automobile for this purpose?"
