     Max E. Combs was born on 12 May 1915 at Cumberland County, Illinois.1 He was the son of Jesse H. Combs and Bertha Woodburn. Max E. Combs married, at age 19, Dessa Elizabeth Updegraff, age 18, daughter of Grover Ansel Updegraff and Stella Seaton, on Monday, 18 June 1934 at Clark County, Illinois.2 Max E. Combs died on 1 December 2000 at age 85 years, 6 months and 19 days.1
     He was an aviation mechanic in the Navy Air Corps, then an operator for USI Chemical Plant in Tuscola, Illinois.
