William Updegraff1

M, (17 January 1818 - 26 October 1896)
     William Updegraff was born on 17 January 1818 at Jersey Shore, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.1 He was the son of Samuel Updegraff and Rachel Cloyd.1 William Updegraff married, at age 32, Lucy Potter Harris, age 20, daughter of Benjamin Harris and Sarah Chandler Potter, on Thursday, 2 January 1851.1 William Updegraff died on 26 October 1896 at Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, at age 78 years, 9 months and 9 days.1 He was buried in the Williamsport Cemetery, located in Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.1
     William was raised by his uncle Thomas Updegraff who taught him the tanning business. William removed to Bodines Station in 1856 and returned to Williamsport in 1865. He was a member of the Common Council, elected to that office by the Republicans of the 3rd Ward in 1878. He was also a member of the Odd Fellows for about 50 years, Logde 112. He was also President of the Board of Trustees of the Pine Street Methodist Episcopal Church.1
