William Updegraff

M, (15 December 1798 - 25 October 1846)
     William Updegraff was born on 15 December 1798 at York, York County, Pennsylvania.1 He was the son of Thomas Updegraff and Elizabeth Rothrock. William Updegraff was baptized, at age 3 months and 23 days, on Sunday, 7 April 1799 at First Moravian Church of York, Pennsylvania.1 He married, at age 27, Rachel Smith, age 26, daughter of Alexander Smith and Rebecca Ackman, on Thursday, 18 May 1826.2 William Updegraff died on 25 October 1846 at Rensselaer, Newton Township, Jasper County, Indiana, at age 47 years, 10 months and 10 days.1 He was buried in the Private Cemetery, located in Newton Township, Jasper County, Indiana.1
     He and Rachel Smith left Lycoming County, Pennsylvania and moved to Rensselaer, Jasper County, Indiana and are buried in a very small private cemetery located 2 1/2 miles west of Rensselaer, on State Route 114, on the south side of the road in a pasture of the farm now (1984) owned by Miss Nellie Grant, formerly owned by the Updegraffs, now no longer used for burials. Rachel is found listed in the 1850 Census - Newton Township, Jasper County, Indiana.1
