Oscar Meldon Kiess was born on 7 February 1883 at Warrensville, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Jonathan Kiess and Mary Ellen Harris. Oscar Meldon Kiess married, at age 20, Grace Vera Winter, age 20 on Friday, 21 August 1903. Oscar Meldon Kiess died on 17 February 1944 at San Diego, San Diego County, California, at age 61 years and 10 days.
He travelled extensively in the midwest establishing dealerships for the Victor Talking Machine Company, now known as RCA. The machine was known as the Victrola. In 1932, Oscar and Grace bought 12 ocean front cottages in Ocean Beach, near San Diego where they lived until his death in 1944.
