Karen E. Bierly was born on 13 October 1955 at Jersey Shore, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of Kenneth E. Bierly and Thelma Waddell. Karen E. Bierly married, at age 19, Franklin Larue Carpenter, son of Aldas LaRue Carpenter and June [—?—], on Friday, 4 July 1975 at Linden, Woodward Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. Karen E. Bierly died on 15 February 2012 at age 56 years, 4 months and 2 days.
Her obituary was published on 16 February 2012 in the Williamsport Sun-Gazette, printed in Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. Her obituary stated:
Karen E. Carpenter, 56, of 6200 S. Route 220 Highway, Linden, went to be with the Lord early this morning, Feb. 15, 2012, at home.
Born Oct. 13, 1955, in Jersey Shore, she was the daughter of Kenneth E. Bierly and the former Thelma Waddell.
She is survived by her husband, Franklin L. Carpenter. They were united in marriage July 4, 1975, in Linden.
Karen was a 1973 graduate of Jersey Shore Area High School and of the Williamsport School of Commerce. She had been employed for many years by Ecker Plastic Surgery of Williamsport, as a medical secretary, but due to her failing health, led to her early retirement.
Karen attended St. John Lutheran Church in Jersey Shore and sang in the church choir. She enjoyed music, puzzles and just being in the great outdoors. She loved planting flowers in her garden and going for motorcycle rides with her husband. Karen believed in angels and had a collection to remind everyone that angels really do exist.
She is also survived by her father, Kenneth of Jersey Shore; a daughter, Brandy (Tom) Clemens of Cogan Station and their son, Seth; a son, Wesley (Maria) Carpenter of North Carolina with their daughter, Elisya. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Heather Carpenter, who is survived by her son, Joshua Miller of Cogan Station.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 1948 W. Third St., Williamsport, PA 17701 or to the Susquehanna Home Care and Hospice, 1100 Grampian Blvd., Williamsport, PA 17701.
Memorial services and burial in the Woodward Township Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements being handled by the Frederick B. Welker Funeral Home, 125 N. Main St., Jersey Shore.1
