Samuel Kiess was born in 1841 at Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Leonard Kiess and Elizabeth Kiess. Samuel Kiess married Sarah Burkhart, daughter of Tobias Burkhart and Christiana Kiess, circa 1862.1 Samuel Kiess died before 1900 at Nebraska.2
