William Bassett was born on 10 October 1743 at New Haven County, Connecticut Colony, America.1,2 He was the son of William Bassett and Mabel Goodyear.2 William Bassett married Dinah Blakeslee, daughter of Jesse Blakeslee and Deborah Todd, circa 1770.1,2 William Bassett died on 9 October 1807 at Watertown, Litchfield County, Connecticut, at age 63 years, 11 months and 29 days.1,2 He was buried in plot 834, in the Old Watertown Cemetery, located in Watertown, Litchfield County, Connecticut. The inscription reads: Mr. William Bassett died Oct. 9, 1807 aged 64 years. Mrs. Dinah, his relict (widow) died Dec. 27, 1834 aged 86 years.2
He is a veteran of the Revolutionary War, most likely serving between 1776 and 1779.2
