Howard Brownfield

     Howard Brownfield was born on 14 October 1917 at Knob Noster, Johnson County, Missouri. He was the son of Dennis Brownfield and Jesse Lane. Howard Brownfield married, at age 23, Mary Josephine VanBibber, age 20, daughter of Wayne Park VanBibber and Mary K. Tyler, on Saturday, 12 April 1941 at Sedalia, Pettis County, Missouri. Howard Brownfield died on 19 May 1999 at Redwood Falls, Redwood and Renville Counties, Minnesota, at age 81 years, 7 months and 5 days. He was buried on 24 May 1999 in the Mount Zion Cemetery, located in Sweet Springs, Saline County, Missouri.
     His obituary was published sometime in May 1999 in the local paper, printed in Redwood Falls, Redwood and Renville Counties, Minnesota. His obituary stated:

     Howard Brownfield, 81, of Redwood Falls formerly of Sweet Springs, Mo. died Wednesday May 19, 1999 at his home.

     He was born Oct. 14, 1917, in Knob Noster, Mo., to Dennis and Jesse (Lane) Brownfield. He attended school in Green Ridge, Mo. He married Mary Jo Van Bibber on April 12, 1941, in Sedalia, Mo. They lived in Missouri.

     He served in the U.S. Army from July 1945 to November 1946. They moved to Morgan in 1991 and to Redwood Falls in 1993. He farmed for 44 years and worked for Coca Cola Bottling Company for 15 years. He retired in 1979. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Redwood Falls. He served as a deacon at Mt. Zion and Warsaw Christian churches.

     He is survived by his wife Mary Jo of Redwood Falls; son and daughter-in-law Howard (Gene) and Janette of Redwood Falls; daughter and son-in-law Sharon Kathleen (Kay) and Charles Heatley of Dahlgren, Va; two grandchildren; sisters, Gladys Keithley of Manhattan, Kan; Berniece Arnett of Palm Springs, Fla; Hellen Sullivan of Westwood, Kan. and Lula Casenelli with husband Jay of West Palm Beach, Fla; and brother and sister-in-law Arnold and June Brownfield of Sedalia, Mo.

     He was preceded in death by brothers, Lewis and Charles; and sister Mary Drenon and two sisters in infancy.

     Services are 11 a.m. Friday, at Church of Christ in Redwood Falls with burial on Monday, May 24 at Mount Zion Cemetery in Sweet Springs, Mo.

     Visitation is 4-7 p.m. today at Nelson Funeral Home in Redwood Falls and will continue one hour before services Friday at the church.
